Job overview

At Talbot Heath, we believe that nothing is beyond reach. We are an extraordinary school where girls are empowered to be curious, compassionate, and courageous, embodying our motto: Curious Minds, Generous Hearts, Adventurous Spirits. From the age of two, our girls begin a transformative journey that nurtures their integrity, compassion, and ambition—values rooted in our founder’s vision of Honour before Honours.

Our unique, girls-only environment allows young women to thrive, free from societal constraints, fostering an atmosphere where intellectual curiosity, emotional well-being, and personal growth are cultivated. With a reputation for innovative thinking and an interdisciplinary curriculum, Talbot Heath encourages girls to explore creativity and deep thinking in an exciting and different way of learning.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and inspirational teacher of Psychology to lead and develop this exciting subject area from September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable educator to inspire a new generation of psychologists and to shape the direction of the subject within our school. The position is available on a full or part-time basis.

Psychology at our school offers a broad and engaging introduction to the science of human behaviour and cognition. Students explore the classic studies and theories that have shaped psychological thinking, while also engaging with contemporary research and developments in neuroscience. With a strong emphasis on real-world application, our Psychology curriculum encourages critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and the ability to analyse and interpret data. Students are supported in designing and carrying out their own investigations, learning valuable skills in hypothesis testing and data analysis.

We follow the AQA A Level Psychology specification (7182), assessed entirely through examinations. Key topics include:

  • Introductory Topics in Psychology – Social Influence, Memory, Attachment, Psychopathology
  • Psychology in Context – Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology, Research Methods
  • Issues and Options in Psychology – Issues and Debates, Cognition and Development, Schizophrenia, Forensic Psychology

This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher passionate about Psychology to lead and inspire, making a real difference to students’ learning and future pathways.

The ability to teach Sociology or another subject would be an advantage, though it is not essential.

The successful candidate will be:

  • A passionate and knowledgeable educator, with a strong academic background in Psychology and a genuine enthusiasm for inspiring students through engaging, evidence-based teaching.
  • Experienced in delivering A Level Psychology, ideally with a thorough understanding of the AQA specification (7182) and a track record of supporting students to achieve excellent outcomes.
  • Innovative and reflective, bringing contemporary research, real-world relevance, and creative thinking into the classroom to enrich the learning experience.
  • An effective and collaborative leader, confident in shaping and developing the Psychology curriculum, and contributing to the broader academic and pastoral life of the school.
  • Aligned with the values of Talbot Heath, committed to fostering curiosity, compassion, and confidence in students within a dynamic, all-girls learning environment.

About Talbot Heath:

  • Beautiful woodland campus located close to Dorset’s stunning coastline.
  • Selective school with excellent academic results at both GCSE and A Level.
  • Renowned for its strong pastoral care system where the well-being and happiness of each student is paramount.

Position: Full-time, permanent.

Start Date: September 2025         Application Deadline: 15th May 2025
