A number of new initiatives have been launched at Talbot Heath for the start of term which all centre on pupil wellbeing: The Oasis, Wellbeing Wednesdays, Yondr Pouches and Outdoor Learning

At Talbot Heath School, we believe that a balanced approach to education is key to unlocking the potential of every student. With an emphasis on wellbeing, our goal is to cultivate a learning environment that nurtures not only the academic but also the emotional, social, and physical growth of our girls, from ages 2 to 18. This commitment is brought to life through a variety of initiatives, including our much-loved “Wellbeing Wednesdays” and the recent opening of our wellbeing centre, “The Oasis.”
We are dedicated to creating an environment where every girl can thrive, not just academically, but emotionally, socially, and physically. By teaching our students to value and prioritise their own wellbeing, we are preparing them to face the future with confidence, compassion, and resilience. As a community, we celebrate the steps we’ve taken and look forward to continuing our journey towards greater wellbeing for all.
Wellbeing Wednesdays: A Midweek Recharge
Each week, the girls at Talbot Heath enjoy “Wellbeing Wednesday,” an initiative that offers a refreshing break from the rigours of academic work. On these days, students take part in activities designed to help them relax, unwind, and reconnect with themselves and their peers. From “knit and natter” sessions, where students can chat while creating beautiful handcrafts, to self-defence classes that empower and build confidence, Wellbeing Wednesday is about more than just fun—it’s a chance for personal growth and connection.
Other activities like table tennis, crochet, and reading give students the freedom to explore hobbies, bond with friends, or simply take time for themselves. By prioritising these experiences, we help our girls learn that wellbeing is not a luxury, but a vital part of life.
The Oasis: A Space for Peace and Reflection
We are proud to have recently opened “The Oasis,” our new dedicated wellbeing centre. The Oasis provides a peaceful haven where students can take a moment to reflect, relax, and recharge. With comfortable spaces designed for both individual reflection and small group gatherings, The Oasis encourages mindfulness and self-care. This space complements the school’s broader mission of supporting every student’s mental and emotional health.

Yondr Pouches: Encouraging Digital Detox
In today’s hyper-connected world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by constant notifications and the pressures of social media. To foster more meaningful interactions and ensure students are truly present in their school day, Talbot Heath has introduced Yondr Pouches. These secure pouches allow students to store their phones away for the day, freeing them from the distractions of their devices.
The benefits have been profound. Without the constant pull of their phones, our girls have been more engaged in lessons, more present in conversations, and more connected to their surroundings. It’s a simple yet transformative change that has contributed significantly to the overall wellbeing of our students.
Outdoor Learning: Nurturing Growth through Nature
In line with our holistic approach to education, we’ve introduced outdoor learning into the Key Stage 3 curriculum. This program encourages students to step outside the classroom and immerse themselves in the natural world, learning about ecology, local habitats, and horticulture. More than just an opportunity to learn about science in the real world, outdoor learning helps our students develop important social skills, build resilience, and cultivate a deeper respect for the environment.
By connecting with nature, the girls not only learn about their local ecosystem but also experience the calming and restorative benefits of being outdoors. These lessons in ecology are also lessons in life—teaching patience, responsibility, and the importance of sustainable living.
