The Sixth Form Geography and Economic students visited Farmer Palmers in Poole this week, to learn about how the dairy farm has been regenerated from a dairy farm into a successful visitor attraction. Students explored their marketing as a farm park for 8-year-olds and under, with both indoor and outdoor play areas, farm animals, woodland trails and a seasonal maize maze.
One of the directors of the park, Sandra Palmer-Snellin delivered an inspiring talk about her vision and determination. She recognised the importance of economic sustainability but also how important the community is too, including her family who share in the running of the farm, as well as protecting the environment for future generations – a great demonstration of a sustainable rural business. They have won a plethora of awards for their family focused attraction.
Following the talk, the Sixth Formers enjoyed time to explore the attractions and the delicious cakes were a huge success! Huge thanks to Sandra and her staff for their generosity with their time.
Thanks also go to the geography department for their time organising and accompanying the visit.
