The Talbot Heath community were thrilled to be hosting another children’s literature festival at the school this week. Expertly organised by librarian Wendy Harty, pupils from Year 5 to Year 8 were invited to a series of workshops and talks by writers and illustrators all celebrating the wonderful world of books throughout the morning.
This year’s speakers were sports broadcaster and writer Dan Freedman. Before becoming an author, Dan was a sports journalist, specialising in football. As an author, he found huge success with his ‘Jamie Johnson’ series of novels, which have sold over 800,000 copies and inspired a popular TV series. He used his session to share his inspiring personal journey along with practical tips for young writers, encouraging them not be afraid to develop their writing talents. Martin Brown is the illustrator for the renowned ‘Horrible Histories’ series; he wowed his audience with his horrible tales and wondrous illustrations inspiring not only pupils, but teachers, to pick up a pencil and get creative! The writer, Cassandra Wye, engaged the Juniors with her high-energy, performance storytelling; she was highly interactive, inspiring and gave the Junior School pupils a lot to think about.
