Congratulations to Isabelle G and her fellow band members for recently winning the Battle of the Bands competition.
Sixth Former Isabelle is passionate about her music outside of school and in January 2023 formed a band with four other musicians she knows through Band Jam at Absolute Music, called Running With Scissors. Isabelle plays electric guitar and backing vocals.
In February they entered the Soundstorm Music Education Agency Battle of the Bands competition, which started with a video audition where 26 entries were whittled down to 15 live auditions. Feedback was given by the judges on which the band spent the next few weeks working. From this, only 5 bands were chosen to play at the live final at the Old Fire station in Bournemouth on 25 April. Bournemouth pop artist Carly Varley was one of the judges.
Over 300 people turned up to watch the bands play and all performers were absolutely fantastic, creating energy and buzz in the venue. Each band played three songs with the winner able to play a fourth encore song. Running With Scissors are a rock band and their songs were: Feeling Good (original by Nina Simone – they performed the Muse cover version), Dark Necessities (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and Holiday (Green Day).
Family and friends who supported were delighted when Running With Scissors were announced the overall winners; their encore song was No One Knows (Queens of the Stone Age).
