In the final week of term, the Sixth Form dramatists, accompanied by Mrs McDonald and Ms Cosgrove, travelled to London to see a production of ‘The House of Bernarda Alba’ at the National Theatre on the Southbank. The home of theatre did not disappoint with a spellbinding adaptation by Alice Birch (Normal People) of Federico García Lorca’s famous play which boasted an incredible cast, including Dame Harriet Walter [Olivier Award-winner and star of Succession] who plays the formidable matriarch. The tension and passion of the play were captured exquisitely through Rebecca Frecknall’s directorial debut, and the set design offered an insight into the world of the Albas, enabling the cast to fully explore their characters.
Thanks go to Mrs McDonald and Ms Cosgrove for making the day an excellent experience for all; the production itself was one that staff and students will remember for some time to come.
