A European Assault on the Senses at the Annual Linguists’ Dinner

A colourful array of European flags were resplendent in the main hall at Talbot Heath last week, for the annual Linguists’ Dinner. Superbly organised by the MFL department, over 80 members of the school community were given a warm reception to experience a taste of the continent once again.

Parents were treated to a sensational six course meal whilst being entertained by the TH pupils. The meal, expertly prepared by Holroyd Howe, was delicious and transported the audience to Spain, France, Italy and Germany with a range of delicious treats.

Guests were served continental canapes and prosecco on arrival; a succulent Gazpacho for starters; a Coq Au Vin for the main course; mouth watering Mousse au chocolat for dessert and a variety of cheeses and membrillo. To conclude the meal, coffee and truffles were not resisted.

The linguists themselves dazzled the audience with their singing in all the above languages; dancing from African dance to Spanish balle, performing funny sketches in French and Spanish and the audience even heard Cicero’s convincing speech in Latin!

It is a yearly tradition to close the event with a super dynamic Cancan and this year, the fabulous Upper Sixth did not disappoint with their incredible choreography!

Huge thanks go to the MFL department, Holroyd Howe, the site and reprographics teams, and the girls themselves, for creating a memorable evening of wine, women and song!

Head of Languages Anne Klemz thanked the staff, parents and pupils, stating: ‘It was a wonderful evening of variety and fun which our pupils should be so proud of. We hope to see you all next year! A bientot!’
