GENERAL INFORMATION

Tuition and boarding fees are subject to annual revision.

Fees in respect of a pupil’s first term are due on the date of parental acceptance of a place for their child but need not be paid until the account is received.

All fees are required to be paid by the first day of term. One term’s fees will be payable by parents who accept a place which is not subsequently taken up.

No remission of fees can be made in the event of temporary closure of the school resulting from an act or event outside the control of the Governors.

Withdrawal requirements are set out on the Admissions Procedure sheet.  Details of the Composition Fees Scheme can be obtained from the Accounts Department.

The Governors cannot consider a remission of fees on account of absence. Full particulars of a scheme of insurance which is recommended by the school Governors can be obtained from the school. Under this scheme those parents who wish to do so can insure against loss of fees in case of absence due to illness, accident and quarantine.

These figures are subject to change on an annual basis.

Talbot Heath approach to VAT proposed for January 2025

As you are aware the changes recently announced by HM Treasury will impact private schools in the UK. Beginning 1 January 2025, a 20% VAT will be imposed on private school fees, along with the removal of business rates relief. On 29 July 2024, the government released a technical note outlining draft legislation. Here are the key points:

  • A 20% VAT will apply to fees for education provided by private schools (or related entities) starting 1 January 2025.

  • VAT will also be applied to “board” and “lodging” services provided by private schools.

  • Payments made on or after 29 July 2024 for education provided after 1 January 2025 will be subject to VAT.

  • “Closely related supplies” will not be subject to VAT including nursery fees up to compulsory school age; before and after school care; transport to and from school; school lunches.

  • Business rates relief will be removed, with separate legislation to follow in April 2025.

VAT for Talbot Heath for Spring and Summer Terms 2025

As you are aware and despite our strong opposition to this policy, we have been preparing for this scenario over the past year. It is particularly disappointing that the government plans to implement this policy midway through the academic year without prior consultation with the sector. We fully understand that this unprecedented decision will affect your financial planning for school fees during the current academic year.

To help mitigate the impact of VAT on fees, we have been implementing operational efficiencies and diversifying our revenue streams over the past year. As a result, we plan to reduce school fees for the Spring and Summer terms by approximately 7%. VAT at 20% will then be applied to these reduced fees on the school bills. Any bursary, scholarship or other discounts will be applied before the application of VAT thus reducing the final amount. The figures below represent the discounted figures.

We wish to reassure you that these measures have been introduced after serious thought and in order to enable Talbot Heath to remain on a good financial footing whilst providing an excellent education for the long term

Please note that fees for the Autumn term 2024, which are available on the school website, are not subject to VAT and remain at the original price set in April 2024.

September 2025 onwards

We understand that you may be concerned about future fees. Our aim is to keep future fee increases closely aligned with inflation, without passing on additional VAT-related costs. However, this will depend on any further measures from HM Treasury. We will continue to update you and do everything we can to minimise the impact of this new legislation on you and your children. Our top priority is to ensure Talbot Heath remains financially stable while maintaining the exceptional quality of education we provide.
