This week is mental health awareness week, the theme of which for 2021 is ‘connecting with nature.’ We have been highlighting the importance of mental health across our school community, both pupils and staff, and sharing ways in which we can all support ourselves and others.
The benefits of spending time in nature are well-documented but never before has the natural world been so crucial in helping our emotional wellbeing. Throughout the pandemic, our experiences of the natural world have helped us cope with the many challenges that we have faced. The flora and fauna, the landscapes and seascapes, sunsets and sunrises, have helped to calm, ground and energise us.
Those times on the beach or in the woods have sustained us and brought us joy. We are very fortunate to have such a beautiful campus at Talbot Heath; at the moment the bluebells, azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom and the site is at its best. Our photo of the week slot in assembly has highlighted the tremendous beauty of Dorset and Hampshire and we have all enjoyed sharing others’ images and memories of time spent connecting with nature. Mrs O’Shea even sent in a photo of a badger walking up her driveway in broad daylight- it doesn’t get better than that!
Wishing you all a happy and restful weekend.
