Lower 5 students enjoyed a day of drama workshops exploring and debating citizenship related issues with Altru Drama last week.
Students began the day learning about the main political parties and considered how their own values aligned with them, they also learned about individual liberty, and considered British Values. Following this, they discussed the parliamentary system – voters / MPs / House of Lords / Monarch – and learnt about the impact each person has on the governance of the country and the system of how laws are made. The impact and consequences of crime, both legal and moral, as well as considering individual and corporate crime, were all explored too.
Mrs Manley was very impressed with the pupils’ responses to the day. She said: ‘Students engaged purposefully and passionately with the day’s events; they were curious and interested to learn, debating with sincerity and insight. It was clear amongst the current Lower 5 that lawyers, police and even future Prime Ministers were in the making!’
Altru Drama is a creative education organisation with 18 years’ experience in delivering drama performances, workshops and projects to young people. The company was founded by Kate Cotterell, a former teacher, and, as such, learning sits at the heart of the organisation.
Thanks go to Altru Drama for an inspiring and informative day, and to Sophie Manley for organising the event.
