Fond Farewell at the Harty Party

The TH Book Group held a special leaving party in honour of Mrs Harty, the cherished librarian, who has been a source of inspiration for pupils who love reading and discussing literature. Two pupils made wonderful cakes, which were devoured very quickly by hungry book enthusiasts, and Food Technology teacher, Mrs Moran, created a beautiful retirement cake in honour of Wendy also.

Wendy joined Talbot Heath in 2012 and since then has nurtured a love for reading in countless pupils; she is an expert in pairing even the most reluctant readers with books. Mrs Harty has also organised the WABA event for a number of years now – something the school hopes to continue.

Mrs Harty thanked everyone for their kind wishes over the last few weeks, and repeated her delight in encouraging and inspiring the girls with their reading over the years: ‘All the very best to everyone; I’ve got lots of good memories of my time here, so thank you all for that, my work family.’

Mrs Wakeling, who runs the Book Group alongside Mrs Harty said, ‘Whenever I find a reluctant reader, I will ask Wendy if she can find something to suit their interests and she always matches book to pupil absolutely perfectly. As a result of this, her encouragement has turned a lot of pupils around. She also talks expertly about authors and texts – is so very knowledgeable. Our book group has been very strong for a number of years now, with Wendy often pre-reading many books to make sure they are suitable.’

She will indeed be very much missed. The school community would like to wish her all the very best in her retirement.
