Inspiring swimmers

We were delighted to welcome Alice Tai to Talbot Heath this week. Alice is a Paralympic British swimmer and champion and the BBC came to film her at our pool talking about her petition to the government to ensure that all children are offered the opportunity to learn to swim. Alice started out her swimming pathway under the guidance of Barry Aldrick, the current Head coach at the TH swimming academy. It was wonderful that she could meet up again with Barry on our site to put across her important message. All of our pupils are fortunate to have swimming lessons and the use of the pool, as part of their curriculum, and the facility is used by Poole Swimming Club, as well as a number of other community swimming providers. We have seen our swimmers go from strength to strength, with well over a hundred pupils now training regularly as part of the swimming academy at the school. We took a huge squad of Junior and Senior pupils to the ISA regional swimming championship this week, where they performed brilliantly across the board; many pupils achieved personal bests and we await to hear how many will be going to the national ISA swimming finals, as a result of their fantastic times and placings.

Our drama department have been extremely busy, preparing for the upcoming production of ‘ Women of Lockerbie’ and the GCSE Drama devised assessments and we look forward to our Extended Project Qualification Presentation event which takes place on Monday 14th November after school. This event is always a highlight of the year for me. Our pupils produce work of undergraduate level of which they can be justly proud. The school annually achieves outstanding results for EPQ and I would recommend any parents who are interested in seeing their projects to attend, to view their display boards and quiz them on their projects.

Wishing you all a productive and constructive week ahead
