A small group of the Lower 6 mathematicians have represented Talbot Heath and the Royal Institution in producing and delivering a series of Maths masterclasses to year 6 pupils from TH and other local schools. Supported with some training provided by a representative of the Royal Institution, the girls were given the task of preparing and delivering the lesson materials to their captive audience; directing activities along the way to develop the learning towards and understanding of Mathematics usually studied at A-Level and beyond!
The session topics included: Probability of winning the lottery and Finding patterns in prime numbers and predicting them. The Maths department are very proud of the girls for their commitment to the subject and the wider school community; they were not only able to display a great understanding of the Mathematics involved, but they were excellent in passing on this understanding in a way the the Y6 pupils both understood and enjoyed. It was an outstanding example of teamwork and organisation, time management and clear public speaking. This will be excellent for their CVs going forward. Congratulations to each of them!
In assembly, Mrs Holloway added: 'I was proud to present our Lower 6 mathematicians with their Maths Masterclass awards from the Royal Institution, in recognition of the excellent masterclasses that they delivered to our Year 6 pupils and others from the local area to develop their understanding of Mathematical concepts taught at A Level and beyond.'
