Lower 4 took part in a gladiator themed interdisciplinary day last week which formed part of their Latin curriculum. Students began their session by learning about the incredible architecture of the Colosseum; this was followed by discovering what life as a gladiator in Ancient Rome would have been like. The girls were trained in the TH ludus gladitorius (gladiator school) to follow four key Latin commands to enable them to take part in a duel with gladius swords.
Visiting the pupils were the great Roman emperors Karanjacus, Jonesius and Englandius, who judged the greatest gladiator from each class and presented them with a solid gold (painted wood) gladius; only three students won the freedom of Rome. Victory was awarded to Elizabeth P, Anya P and Jolie D.
