Welcome from the head of 6th form

Joining us now is particularly exciting. In the 2024-25 academic year, we are implementing several significant enhancements to our Sixth Form:

  • Implementation of Community Action Workplace programme, providing placements every Wednesday afternoon, offering students invaluable hands-on work experience.
  • Introduction of Sociology A Level alongside our existing repertoire of 19 A Level subjects.
  • Introduction of the Level 3 Community Sports Leader award, providing an alternative or supplementary option to the Extended Project Qualification.
  • Elective opportunities featuring an array of inspiring and engaging experts and speakers as part of our enrichment programme.
  • The Mary Broad Bursary – this is a means tested academic bursary for high achieving girls, offering generous reductions on fees.

We already boast a rich tradition of exceptional academic achievements, coupled with a profound commitment to nurturing confident, resilient, and determined young women who are prepared to navigate their paths in the world beyond Talbot Heath. Our graduates consistently embark on highly competitive university courses both in the UK and internationally, as well as coveted higher-level apprenticeships.

We appreciate your interest and encourage you to connect with us to start your Sixth Form journey at Talbot Heath School. Visit our Open Day page to arrange a tour or book on to our Open Day in October.

Tracy Harris, Headteacher.

Talbot Heath Sixth Form has a long record of academic excellence and is a powerful launchpad to a successful future. Our Sixth Form students gain places at the most prestigious universities in the country and internationally as a result of both their impressive academic performance and the wide range of further opportunities that we provide. In 2024, 37% of students achieved A*/A grade compared to a national average of 27%. They gained 89.9% A*-C, compared to a national average of 76%.

We offer excellent Sixth Form teaching in a dynamic and nurturing environment. This includes our modern Hub building which  provides both learning and breakout areas.

We are proud of the exceptional pastoral support that we provide students in the Sixth Form. Students are part of small tutor groups to ensure that they are given the support that they need. This is particularly useful for supporting students as they prepare for their future beyond A Levels. Students are guided through the UCAS process or helped as they navigate the growing number of alternative opportunities. This will be the first year in which we have a dedicated Pastoral Head of Sixth Form, Miss Webb. This change will ensure that our pastoral support continues to develop and respond to the needs of our students.

Students benefit from being taught in small classes by highly qualified, dedicated and experienced specialist teachers. Their academic progress is supported by enrichment sessions in which study skills are taught as well as through the provision of a large silent study space, dedicated to the Sixth Form.  Many students apply to become Subject Ambassadors, giving them the chance to champion a specific subject and contribute to the school’s vibrant academic ethos.  This will be the first year that we have a dedicated Academic Head of Sixth Form, Mr Sinclair-Smith. His role will be to ensure that pupils receive high-quality learning experiences and are supported in achieving their full potential.

We see it as essential that students in the Sixth Form have meaningful leadership opportunities both within the school as well as in the wider community. Through these opportunities, students develop their character and an understanding of the importance of service. Our Sixth Formers are role models for the rest of the school. Students have access to a varied programme of enrichment through a variety of clubs and committees. This includes the option to participate in the 6th Form Committee, organising social events and supporting both local and international charities. Many students also participate in the Rwanda Committee, raising money to help children gain access to education.

In Upper 6th, students have the opportunity to join the Head Student and Prefect Team, taking on significantly more responsibility by supporting staff in their duties, individual academic departments and the younger pupils in the school.

Our SixthForm offers a new start for everyone, whether you have been at Talbot Heath for several years or join for A Levels. All students receive a warm welcome and quickly settle into Talbot Heath Sixth Form life.
