Talbot Heath Year 6 Shine at Young Voices 2025

At the start of February, the amazing Year 6 pupils took part in the world’s biggest children’s choir at the Young Voices concert at the O2 in London—what an experience it was for everyone!

The journey started back in September, with the girls learning a new song every week (that’s a lot of lyrics!). But it wasn’t just singing—there were dance routines to master, one song with Makaton signing, and two songs performed entirely in British Sign Language (BSL). It was a huge challenge, but the girls took it all in their stride.

The concert featured some fantastic music, including a Hairspray medley, a mix of dance classics like Footloose and I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and a special Bob Marley tribute to celebrate what would have been his 80th birthday. There were also some incredible original songs written especially for Young Voices.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the girls had the opportunity to watch the Urban Strides dance crew in action and can now proudly say they’ve sung with Tommy Blaize (from the Strictly Come Dancing band) and MC Grammar!

All of the Talbot Heath girls sang and danced their hearts out all day and night. Other schools even commented on how well they knew the songs and how much energy they brought to their little section of the O2! For many, this was their first time in a huge concert arena—and now they’ll expect to be the stars every time they visit one!

Finally arriving back at Talbot Heath school at 1am, there were some very sleepy but happy students. However, the excitement didn’t stop there—the next day, they were back in action, filming a Young Voices music video so that parents who couldn’t make it could still enjoy the magic.

A huge well done to all our fantastic performers—what a night to remember! Grateful thanks go to Mr Hall and the music teachers for preparing and inspiring the girls in readiness for this wonderful opportunity, and for organizing and accompanying the visit.
