TH Juniors Celebrate National Poetry Day

National Poetry Day is a time to celebrate and highlight the impact poetry has on our everyday lives. During our assembly this week, led by Mrs Maddison and Mrs Smith, our pupils expressed how poetry provides an opportunity for them to express their thoughts and feelings, as well as to demonstrate their creativity. The English and Maths Ambassadors launched a poetry competition relating to the theme of ‘Counting’ for all Pre-Prep and Junior pupils to participate in, they also organised poetry related activities at lunchtime. These activities were enjoyed by many; pupils came together to create poetry puppets, played poetry charades, shared poems with the poetry buddies and created secret poems using lemon juice and torches!

Teachers delivered engaging lessons relating to the theme which is displayed on our ‘Poet-Tree’ in the Junior School entrance. It has been wonderful to observe a love of poetry amongst our pupils as they have been inspired to create and share their own poems this week.

Congratulations to the pupils who took part in our Pre-Prep and Junior National Poetry Day competition. The English and Maths ambassadors thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the superb entries, alongside Mrs Maddison and Mrs Smith: Joint 1st Place – Polly W and Grace M; 2nd Place – Orla S; 3rd Place – Julia L.
