Uplifting Resilience Workshops for Years 10 and 11

The year 1o and 11 PHE classes both attended an uplifting workshop entitled ‘Become a Better Version of Yourself’ recently.

Each group received a talk by Ayo Awotona, the CEO and Founder of ‘Joy Uplifts’, in the Hub. The session focused on becoming the best version of yourself and re-establishing joy in life. She encouraged the girls to get up and dance to build their confidence and to let go of their inhibitions before they started talking about what makes them feel confident and reasons why they might not feel confident.

Ayo also discussed self-esteem and how to like yourself, stressing how important it is to build confidence internally before seeking validation from others; she gave a convincing step-by-step guide on how this has worked for her. The girls enjoyed the sessions and felt inspired to take onboard her advice and positive approach to life. Her mission statement is as follows:

Empowering girls to make a significant impact in the world and pursue excellence is essential now more than ever. Our girls are under pressure from social media, friendship groups, society’s idea of the perfect body, relationships, family lives and much more.

The world has changed and girls are evaluating themselves so harshly. We are surrounded by constant comparisons and competition, so girls tend to be susceptible to having low self-esteem.

I believe that every girl should learn to embrace who she really is and be confident in her own skin.

My mission as a visionary is to bridge the gap between low self-esteem and positive self-worth amongst girls and young women (10-25 years old).

Thanks go to Mrs Manley for organising such an important and inspirational workshop for the girls.
