The Upper 5 Geographers visited Ocean Village in Southampton this week, in order to assess how successful this urban regeneration project has been. Students will be using the data collected to respond to questions in their Paper 3 GCSE exam next summer. Despite the cloudy, cool conditions the students worked collectively and in small groups to survey the area. Environmental quality was assessed, noise readings taken and the ArcGIS app (online geographic information system) was used to pinpoint their data collection, as well as generate graphs later on when they returned to the classroom.
The students worked efficiently throughout the day, engaging with members of the public and were a credit to both the Geography staff and Talbot Heath. Thanks go to the Geography Department for organising and overseeing the visit.
