Women Entrepreneurs Inspire Talbot Heath Students

In a special Careers Week assembly at Talbot Heath school, two remarkable women entrepreneurs, Sam Acton and Frances Miles, took centre stage to share their inspiring career journeys with our students. Sam Acton, the Founder of Domestic Angels, and Frances Miles, the Managing Director of the recruitment company Jobshop, captivated the audience with stories of hard work, perseverance, and success.

During the assembly, Sam and Frances spoke candidly about their paths to entrepreneurship, each sharing the unique challenges and triumphs they experienced along the way. Sam reflected on her passion for working for herself and building her company, Domestic Angels, from the ground up. Her words resonated with the students, as she shared how her company has not only thrived, but her success had given her a platform to support business women across Dorset and the UK. It was so inspiring to hear of her work at all levels, from Government committees to local community partners.

Frances shared her own journey in the recruitment industry, detailing how she turned a passion for helping people find the right job into a successful business. She spoke about the importance of connecting with people and understanding their potential. It was inspiring to hear about her journey, emphasising how each step forward, no matter how small, is a success.

The students were eager to engage with the entrepreneurs and asked insightful questions. One of their questions, “What are you most proud of in your career?” provoked a memorable response from Sam Acton. “Every day I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, but today, I’m proud to be here, speaking to all of you,” She also introduced the students to a valuable lesson: “FAIL means ‘First Attempt In Learning.'” This powerful message encouraged the students to see setbacks not as failures, but as opportunities for growth and learning.

The assembly was a wonderful opportunity for TH students to hear from two inspirational role models; Sam and Frances not only shared their business expertise but also encouraged the students to embrace challenges and view every experience as a stepping stone toward success. Their words left a lasting impression on everyone in the room, motivating us all to approach our goals with resilience, optimism, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

We are so grateful to Sam Acton and Frances Miles for their time and wisdom. We look forward to inviting them back to Talbot Heath School for future careers events. Thanks also to Mrs Debra Barham for organising the assembly.
